Hypar
My latest design – a total departure from soft kites – is a Hyperbolic Paraboloid, to give it its proper scientific name – all tight fabric and carbon spars.
The mathematical term for this kind of shape is ‘Hyperbolic Paraboloid’ which is a bit of a mouthful, hence the name ‘Hypar’.
A more descriptive name – which I prefer – would be to call it a Cheshire Cat, or in the case of the smaller one – Cheshire Kitten!
Produced in white as standard, other colours on request.
A couple of years ago while working on another project, I accidentally designed this kite – very similar to the Vietnamese Flute Kite or Dieu Sao. My version is similar in shape – but made of ripstop nylon and either carbon or fibreglass (depending on the size) and without the flutes.
